Maharaja Dr. Karni Singhji named this Trust after his grandfather, Maharaja Ganga Singhji, who was born on 13th Oct. 1880 and succeeded the throne of Bikaner State on 31st Aug. 1887, Maharaja Ganga Singhji was a man of great vision and was responsible for bringing Bikaner State on the International map by his great deeds and strenuous efforts. He was a great Soldier, Builder, Statesman & Patriot. He faced the challenge of great famine of 1889 very successfully, and to combat such situations in future he brought the Ganga Canal Irrigation System from Sutlej River to Irrigate a vast tract of sandy land in his state and spread a well planned network of Railway System throughout the State. He was a very enlightened Ruler and was ahead of his times and brought about many reforms in his State. His services to the cause of Indian Nationalism are such as to entitle him to an honored place among the ranks of the great Indians Patriots. He advocated the idea of a federal system of Government in India and never lost the opportunity of espousing the cause of India's just aspirations for the attainment of freedom. He was a profound scholar, a great orator and a great administrator. |
